How It Works
IVF due dates are calculated differently than natural conception. The embryo age at transfer (Day 3 or Day 5) is added to the days since transfer, plus 14 days to align with LMP dating. Not medical advice -- your fertility clinic will give you the most accurate date.
The Formula
Gestational age = Days since transfer + Embryo age + 14
Day 5 transfer: add 19 days to get LMP-equivalent
Day 3 transfer: add 17 days
Day 5 transfer: add 19 days to get LMP-equivalent
Day 3 transfer: add 17 days
Variables
- Embryo age — 3 days (Day 3 transfer) or 5 days (Day 5 blastocyst)
- 14 days — Added to align with standard LMP dating
Example
Day 5 transfer, 30 days ago: 30 + 5 + 14 = 49 days = 7 weeks pregnant, 231 days remaining.
Tips
- IVF pregnancies have the most accurate due dates because conception timing is known exactly
- Day 5 (blastocyst) transfers have slightly higher success rates than Day 3
- Your clinic may adjust the due date at the first ultrasound
- Frozen embryo transfers (FET) use the same calculation as fresh transfers
